Boy oh Boy: The Boy Jacket is What a Girl Wants
Darlings, what this girl wants this fall and actually has already gotten, is a school boy jacket. This feminine version of the boy/girl prep school staple is cut short, narrow and is best in the classic dark blue, grey or even in an English public school stripe. The version I snapped up this fall is from J. Crew, but there are amazing options to be found from Rugby, The Row, Zac Posen, Rag & Bone or perhaps your local school uniform store.
Urban Darling Digs Anthropologie
In the words of a song from just before one other big ol’ economic slump, “ain’t we got fun?” Yes darlings, last night at Anthropologie in Palo Alto we had fun, drinks, fashion and shopping! Remember shopping? Yes, it is still fun, if just a bit less crazy than in recent times. Anthropologie and Urban Darling joined forces last night to bring back the fun and give shoppers and our darling clients a first look at fall trends, snacks and a nice glass of wine.
Leaving on a Jet Plane: Tanya Finally gets a Vacation
Yes darlings, you heard me right, I am finally taking a little vacation, or as we moms call it when the kid(s) come along, a trip. Don’t get me wrong, can’t wait to get away, even if it is just a little jaunt to see close family and friends. So let’s talk about one of my favorite topics: airport wear. Forbes Catches On
There’s an old saying, “the bigger they are, the harder they fall.” I would like to offer this small change: “the bigger they are, the slower they move.” Sometimes it just takes the big boys a bit longer to catch on to something we little guys already know.
The Pearl Crown
Recessionistas, please pause for a cheap and chic alert. Wandering Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto yesterday, in search of a plain skinny black belt (not as easy as you might think, but that’s another blog), I wandered past the Free People Boutique on my way to J. Crew.
The Case for the Glasses
I am very happy to see that one of my favorite trends is back. I am talking about big, face obscuring, horn rimmed, old-school glasses.
Dita Moi
Darlings, pictured is Ms. Dita Von Teese, world-renowned burlesque queen and style idol. Don’t take my word for it; ask Marc Jacobs, Christian Louboutin or the many other designers who look to Ms. Von Teese for inspiration.
Essentials for the Not A Soccer Mom
Just the other day, one of my dearest friends asked for my help. She had just read Tim Gunn’s Top 10 Essentials and was wondering if I could translate them for her with a “less urban” take.
Chain, Chain, Chain
Here my darlings, is a little goodie from one of my all time favorite designers, Ms. Vera Wang. This necklace is from her Simply Vera Vera Wang for Kohls line. Like Isaac Mizrahi, and the growing crowd of guest designers for Target, Vera brings her individual point of view to a low-priced line, accessible to all.
