Accessories are one of the easiest ways to incorporate vintage elements that anyone can pull off. With today’s “more is more” jewelry trend on the rise, experiment with combining several vintage items together for a look that says “awesome” instead of “Auntie Maude”.
I definitely have a thing for vintage. To some out there, that may seem totally off-base for a stylist to say, knowing how we loooove to preach on about the latest trends, and work daily to keep our clients looking current. While we do love to know what’s going on and to stay on top of it all, we also embrace the little quirks that help define a client’s personal style. And that’s where vintage can come in!
Ashley Brooks throws down her own Closet Audit and the notes she reported back were eye-opening. Let’s see what your reaction is – comment away! (On a serious note – I think the latest article in Lucky spurred the cleanse) I did a big ol’ purge this weekend/last night…4 overflowing garbage bags are now waiting for Goodwill. I clearly have a huge problem with the following:

Milwaukee wardrobe stylist Ashley Brooks brings the sequins and a lot of honesty! I personally cannot help but associate sequins with the horde of dance costumes collected from my juvenile tap recital days. Well…and also with really bad 80′s mother-of-the-bride dresses…um…on drag queens. While traveling Europe to shop trend back in September, I was basically AGHAST (I’ve always wanted to use that word in a blog!) at the sheer volume of blingety-bling sequined items in all the trendy shops. The look was EVERYWHERE, and there was literally NO relief from all of the SHINE, SHINE, SHINE!

Ashley Brooks, our wardrobe stylist a la Milwaukee strikes again… A recent ‘Oprah’ episode featured shoe, handbag and accessory interventions…and I admit it: I’m completely swiping this idea from O Magazine’s creative director, Adam Glassman. Adam believes that there are just six pairs of shoes that every woman should own for her wardrobe to be complete: (Adam is clearly not a woman, and Adam has clearly never met ME…)

As Fall approaches and the days are getting cooler, have you picked up on the latest neckwear look going, the “infinity scarf”? Super-chic and the very definition of cozy, these no-tie wonders are suddenly everywhere.
Ashley Brooks knows a thing or two about sneakers…our Wardrobe Stylist Milwaukee has a lot to say! I sincerely hope that our Darling moms out there don’t feel too terribly picked on just because we harp so much on your maternal footwear choices. However…you really can ditch those gym shoes and get all the comfort you crave (…and all the style WE demand) in what we term “the sleeker sneaker”.

A key reason clients tell us that they come to Urban Darling® is for help with getting out of the style rut they’ve been stuck in for years. Fashion changes quickly, and keeping yourself current and updated (…notice that I did NOT say trendy….) can be daunting for many women. So how do you break out of your rut? In spite of our culture’s obsession with overly-dramatic makeover shows, it really doesn’t require completely overhauling your style identity on a regular basis. Normally, just a couple of simple shifts or tweaks will noticeably impact your look. Try a few of …

I bought a stunning short, layered Lucky Brand “charm” necklace about four years ago that I have worn so consistently (and with so many compliments) since that I’ve more than made good on the “price per wear” rule — I’m practically being paid to wear it at this point! That very item, with its multiple chunky chains, chandelier-crystal drops, and hodge-podge of good luck charms (it even has a guitar pick hanging off the side!) started my love affair with the “statement necklace”.
