As we are coming to the close of this year, the conversation goes to what’s in fashion next year. Usually there are trends from decades past that reappear. One that I witnessed recently was the sight of bright neon colors in Forever 21 during a Christmas shopping extravaganza. Remembering all my fashion mistakes from the 80’s, I cringed and backed out of the store immediately. (I have a lot of bad fashion memories from those days.)
One trend for 2013 that I have been reading about online and in all the fashion magazines is 60’s inspired glamour. I love this mod trend because of the beautiful colors, prints, and flattering silhouettes. The A-line dress and skirt as well as the tunic-style dress with a Peter Pan collar come to mind because they are figure-flattering pieces that work on several different body types.
This style was seen on the runways of Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, and Moschino as well as many others. Jason Wu (designer for Michelle Obama and many other celebrities) has just introduced a lower priced line called Miss Wu which was influenced by this decade. Women like Jane Birkin and Marianne Faithfull were used as inspiration for this line. I love the hats in these pics too!
Whether you are embracing an A-line shift dress, wearing a bold print, or sporting a mod jacket from this era, there is something for everyone with this trend. Here are a couple of my picks for this look. If you are nervous about wearing bright colors, these two dresses in black and white are right up your alley. Both are great price points and can be worn now with tights and boots and then brought into spring.
