Boho Maxi Dress
The ’70s continued to be a big presence on the fall catwalk. I was especially taken with the maximalist maxis as seen on the runways at Valentino, Zimmermman and Etro. Versatile enough for brunch or after-hours, finish with a saddle bag for day and temper with sturdy boots for evening.
Spotted on the catwalks at Givenchy, (Ricardo Tisci described the collection as “Victorian-chola girl.”), Altuzarra, and Rodarte, the high elaborate necklines, lace, and embroidery bring high romance and girlish chic to fall style. One of my favorite trends, it’s best introduced in small doses to your wardrobe. For weekends, pair a high neck delicate blouse with your fave denim, for work, wear with streamlined pieces like a midi skirt and ankle boots.
Big, sparkly earrings popped up on numerous runways, among them Miu Miu, Tibi, and, Balenciaga. This is another big favorite! Personally, I have not worn earrings on a regular basis for years, but have started to bring them back to my everyday look, and it’s the easiest way to make a big impact. If you dare, try the single earring trend or rock a mismatched pair.
A crisp, bold classic that’s worth coming back to, shown at Chanel, Alexander Wang, and 3.1 Phillip Lim. Go grungy for the weekend in a buffalo plaid shirt and boyfriend jeans, or opt for a polished tartan black and white coat for the office.
Update your low-rise (if you still wear them, they are way past their expiration date) and mid-rise jeans and pants with a high-waist style. Seen at Isabel Marant, Rodarte, and Jason Wu, the look is elegant and will show off your waist and elongate the leg line. Tuck your tops in, and emphasize the waist further with a sleek belt.
