Dressing up your closet for the Holidays

I’m starting to see Christmas items pop up in retail stores and hear rumblings about new Christmas albums coming out. Are we really that close to holiday time? Yes! Time to start planning for those holiday events and parties that always pop up. No better time to save money than the present, so let’s go to the next best thing after the mall, your own closet!

Almost everyone has a black dress in their closet, so I decided to pull mine out. I bought this cocktail dress from Topshop earlier in the year. What things can we add to make it perfect for the holiday season? For the first look, I added a long, layered gemstone necklace. ( I had it made for me with vintage pins I owned.) This has enough bling and color to give an extra lift to the outfit. For the second look, I added a sequin bolero jacket from Forever 21. (This jacket was from last year.) Sequins and rhinestones in accessories are great ways to dress up your looks for the holiday season.

Another piece that I pulled out of my closet was an embellished black silk tank I received as a gift a couple of years ago. I added a Zara tweed jacket with silver trim over the tank. The silver bugle beads on the tank complement the trim in the jacket. On bottom, I added a pair of black trousers (You should always have these in your closet!) and a great pair of shoes. This is a excellent day to evening look. Perfect for that holiday party right after work. Metallics can give any outfit a holiday feel.

My best advice for holiday looks is to find accessories that can dress up your existing wardrobe. Forever 21 has fun necklaces that won’t cost an arm and a leg. I also like alltherageonline.com and baublebar.com.  Accessories can completely change the look of any outfit. Now that’s something I can toast to!
