A tribute for Mother’s Day

We all came from somewhere. By somewhere I mean our mother’s.
If it wasn’t for her, you wouldn’t be here. Like it or not, that is the truth.
We inherit all kinds of good, bad and crazy from our mother’s. Like it or not, that is the truth.
Sometimes our mother’s are blood relatives and sometimes they aren’t. Like it or not, that is the truth.

This Mother’s Day I asked the wardrobe stylist of Urban Darling to share with me pictures with their mother’s or their kids. And here is what they want to share:

RAVE: Style in a box

There is a new way to shop hitting the world: Style in a Box.
Whether you are in the know or now in the know, here’s what you REALLY need to know.
1. There are a two companies that have in-house stylists (like StitchFix and CakeStyle) that will take your info and their stylists outfit you - StitchFix is moderately priced and CakeStyle is higher price points
2. There is another company that actually uses YOUR stylist to help choose clothing for you: StyleYou [Read more...]

Focipline a new direction

I was recently texting with a client who admitted to “purging her closet regularly as a hobby to create room for new things” {I am completely paraphrasing} and I told her that she needs to think about if she really NEEDS ___________. She went on to tell me that that was the problem, she really doesn’t need anything.

Hmmm… I went on to tell her she might need Focipline (which was a mistake in words. I was trying to say Focus and Discipline.

She then commented “I partially struggle because I have serious multiple wardrobe personality disorder. I love 60′s sheath dresses, hippie blouses, rocker jeans, stilettos and cowboy boots. Does not compute!!”

Ladies and gents, I open the blog post for discussion, what do you think?

RAVE black&white

I am a generational fan of black and white. For decades I have worn the tried and true combo proudly and loudly. Being a native San Franciscan transplanted to Silicon Valley the black and white haven’t gotten nearly as much play as the colors of the rainbow. I am happy to see that several of the red carpet walkers.  [Read more...]

RAVE: Riding Boots

Winter is wrapping itself up in many places and we’re having to pack away our boots. Who’s sad with me?!! I barely even got to break them in. Riding boots sure have been the rage for the last few years and I didn’t find mine until this last winter. That is several years of being bootless in the winter. It wasn’t easy to find boots that really worked. [Read more...]

ASK A WARDROBE STYLIST: Lace

Hope you’re not too disappointed we aren’t talking about President’s Day. We just don’t like to mix with politics… We received a question from a client the other day about Lace. What she wanted to know what was the age limit for someone to wear lace. Hmmm, how do you answer? I believe that you can really wear a lot at any age but it depends on how/what it is. Most of all it’s confidence and comfort. Let’s take these outfits for example: [Read more...]

FASHION FRIDAY: Flatforms

Are you on board with the Flatforms? I remember wearing them when I was 24. Guess made this very cute one solid black strap flatform that I wore into the ground. I am pretty stoked to see this trend come back. I prefer the flatforms in a sandal with or without a strap. When they are an oxford, seems a little to thick. The flatform is feminine in the sandal. Tell us, what do you think?

RAVE: Fat Bottom Girls

I love Queen (the band, Her Royal Highness) I have had the Fat Bottom Girls song rolling around in my head for days now. The song got me thinking about my heavy bottom clients and even bigger than that (no pun intended) all over the world. A constant struggle for this shaped woman is bottoms. Teeny waists, bigger hips, thighs, booty and unhappy in their wares. SAD FACE!

ASK A WARDROBE STYLIST: Pain

Lots of questions over the years about Pain. Do you suffer in your {fill in the blank} for the sake of fashion/style? The answer is NO, not ever, never. The whole concept of styling is to get out of the pain points, whether it’s pinching your tootsies, squeezing your breasts, pinching in your waist. Whatever it is. [Read more...]

FASHION FRIDAY: the t-shirt

Kohl's SO® Slubbed Tee

Kohl’s SO® Slubbed Tee

I love t-shirts. I will change an entire outfit to wear a t-shirt. It’s nuts – I know, being a professional wardrobe stylist to do that, but I have to be comfortable and unrestricted in my clothing. It has been a very very long time since I have fallen in-love with a t-shirt. I currently own three: a Frida Kahlo t-shirt, a Jean Paul Gaultier t-shirt and a pug t-shirt. Don’t judge. Just recently a little birdy form Kohl’s
