Have you heard of Juil? No? Me either, but I know about them now and so will you…
I received an email about a month ago from Juil, they wanted us to sample their shoes. Now, being a styling agency we get solicited all the time to sample, and we generally decline. This time, we thought was a good opportunity to give some real feedback. So we accepted!
One thing that struck me right away about Juil, was their concept. They are a shoe company. Pretty standard and simple. But, they come at their shoes with an approach that may resonate with you.
If you are up on your metaphysical verbiage, you know we are pounded with stress and toxins daily. You know that calm, peaceful feeling that you experience when you walk barefoot in the sand or grass? Well, there’s some science behind it. We get a feeling of being “grounded”, rooted, calm, peaceful.
Juil came up with a shoe that helps achieve this feeling. By placing copper buttons in their shoes it’s like a conduit that helps feeling grounded. Pretty ingenious isn’t it?
*side note, scores of professional athletes wear copper conduits, and I remember that there is a brand of watches that has these copper conduits in them (can’t remember the brand for the life of me)
Rather than go on a pitch on the shoes, I’ll give you my PRO and CON list. The truth, unedited.
Pro: very cute shoes and sandals, carry sandals for men too, great options, fantastic quality, comfortable footbed, grounding works, I tested with shoes on shoes off (Mr. Miyagi reference) and thought subtle, definitely felt better, awesome price point, the packaging the shoes come in is thoughtful (but remember to recycle!)
Con: no half sizes, the heel back of the shoe rubs like a mofo (easily fixable), the copper buttons tap on the ground (so if you want to sneak up on people, these are not the shoes for you)
Try them, it’s worth it. In fact, you’re worth it.
